Museum of Jurassic Technology – No Dinosaurs

Photo of entrance to Museum of Jurassic TechnologyIs it an art museum?  Is it a science museum?  What kind of a museum is this?  The amazing little gallery and Russian tea house on Venice Boulevard in Culver City is guaranteed to confound you.  Check your definitions of art, science and curating at the door and enter the bizarre world of The Museum of Jurassic Techology.  For more than 20 years this dark and exotic collection of oddities, which may or may not be real, has enthralled visitors from around the world including our private luxury tour guests visiting Los Angeles and looking for something wholly different to do.  More directly descended from old world museums of our distant past there is a sense of artistic expression, a pre-science anticipation of a future that is now and a tongue-in-cheek air of flimflammery.  You will be puzzled, annoyed, and delighted — often at the same moment.  While not a large museum it is certainly dense and worthy of several visits to really examine each of the displays.  Thankfully, upstairs is a tea house with a large silver samovar from which pours hot tea to reinvigorate your information saturated mind.  Muse over your thoughts and chomp on a cookie and then descend to explore the museum further.  Don’t forget to spend time in the bookstore.  This is not your grandmother’s museum of coffee table art books.  Or is it?
