The Morrison Hotel Gallery is the perfect destination to suggest to your private Los Angeles tour guide after you have been downtown to see the original Morrison Hotel (or what’s left of it, quite a contrast to the celebrity homes we see in Beverly Hills). Devoted fans of the 60’s rock group icon will remember the album cover photographed at the now defunct hotel, a photo you can see at the gallery. Jim Morrison wanted to shoot his next album cover in the hotel (I’m sure you can see why) but the staff declined to permit it. So, Jim and the guys snuck in and “stole” the picture. The back of album photo was taken nearby at what was then the Hard Rock Café, a name purloined later to start a rocking hamburger joint in London, now a widely recognized restaurant worldwide. The Morrison Hotel Gallery was opened in this century in SoHo and opened later here in Los Angeles in the lobby of the Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood (on the Sunset Strip). The gallery specializes in rock ‘n roll photography, then and now. As photographers you can understand why we cherish the gallery. We bring our music lovers here often after a visit to the Grammy Museum, also in downtown Los Angeles.
